Currently attending a Masters in Communication Management at the BSM-UPF, Santi Valldepérez, graduated in Audiovisual Communication from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2001, having also studied co-production of documentaries and Television Programming, Transmedia Narrative and Direction of Documentaries. He is a founding partner of Filmsnòmades, an audiovisual production company and the founder of communication consultancy agency PVS Media. Inspired by ART&TUR and with its support, he created the Terres Festival, in 2017, which aims “to show films focused on sustainable development and natural tourism”.
In this brief interview, Santi reveals what appeals to him in the tourism industry, his opinion on how a festival like ART&TUR can contribute resilience and sustainability of the industry, while also discussing the history of his collaboration with the festival and what he is currently working on.
What appeals to you most about the tourism industry?
S: What I find most interesting about the tourism industry is its ability to bring together a vocation for service and strategic vision applied to the territories. The biographies of the pioneers of tourism development around the world have many similarities, it’s something that fascinates me.
What do you think is the contribution of a festival like ART&TUR to the resilience and sustainability of the tourism industry?
S: ART&TUR is a unique meeting point, in the world, for researchers, professionals and audiovisual producers. At a time like the present, ART&TUR is a necessary tool for the tourism sector to recover its self-esteem and a unique showcasing event for the audiovisual industry to discover the potential of a region with as many attributes as the Center of Portugal.
Since when have you been collaborating with ART&TUR and what would you highlight about this collaboration?
S: I first got to know ART&TUR in 2015. Since then, a professional and personal relationship, that I am proud of, has been forged, both with those responsible and with the organising team. A relationship of mutual affection, that took a step further when I proposed to the Catalan and Spanish authorities to organise the Terres Festival, a project for which we had the support of ART&TUR from the beginning.
What are you currently working on?
S: This year, the Terres Festival will celebrate 5 years. We are very focused on this milestone. In the last edition, we had great support from the public despite the difficulties of a year like the one we experienced. We want this edition, which will be held from 3 to 11 September, to contribute to giving a message of optimism and confidence.
