ART&TUR brings to Torres Vedras the best tourism films

Turismo Centro de Portugal, the Municipality of Torres Vedras and Centro de Portugal Film Commission presented yesterday, at a press conference, the main highlights of the 12th edition of the ART&TUR Festival, which will take place from 22 to 25 October, in Torres Vedras.

The press conference, which took place at Chafariz dos Canos, in Torres Vedras, was attended by Pedro Machado (President of the Tourism Center of Portugal), Carlos Bernardes (Mayor of Torres Vedras), Francisco Dias (Director of the ART&TUR Festival) and Mariana Castelo Branco (jury president of the festival).

Carlos Bernardes underlined, “the close relationship that will be created between the ART&TUR festival and the municipality of Torres Vedras”, taking advantage of press conference location, to explain that the festival seeks to have a strong connection with the heritage of the host municipality, and that in the case of Torres Vedras it will be evident through surfing and Kazuo Dan. He also stressed that “It is important to make our territories tourist destinations of excellence and this festival is particularly attractive in this regard.”

Pedro Machado pointed out that “Today there is an identity in the region associated with new tourism products that are becoming increasingly attractive, reaching international markets that were not usual. ART&TUR is a paradigmatic example, for the international projection it can achieve”. “It makes perfect sense that this festival is this year in Torres Vedras, a growing territory on many levels, with diverse events and products. It will be a reference ART&TUR”.

Festival Director Francisco Dias highlighted the high number of films in the contest and recalls that “All the money invested in the festival has a return on the local economy, both in hotels and restaurants”. He also praised the city, saying: “I am very hopeful for a very positive festival. Torres Vedras breathes creativity. It’s a city where things happen.”

This year films were submitted from 52 countries from all continents. In total there are 331 films in competition: 219 films submitted to international competition and 112 films submitted to national competition.

The films will be screened at various venues in the city of Torres Vedras and Santa Cruz beach. Admission is free upon registration on the Festival website. The full program is now available at: https://tourfilm-festival.com/en/programa/

A new initiative is the People’s Choice Award, which debuts at this year’s edition, offering to the public the opportunity to decide prizes. Voting is divided into three categories: Best Tourism Film – International Competition; Best Tourism Film – National Competition; and Best Documentary. The top-rated films in each category will be awarded the People’s Choice Award.
